Welcome

Georgia Romance Writers, a chapter of ROMANCE WRITERS OF AMERICA®, is made up of approximately 200 serious, professional writers, nearly one-third of whom are multi-published in book length fiction.

A non-profit organization, we are dedicated to bringing quality women’s fiction to the market. Our mission is to promote high quality romance writing; to disseminate information regarding all aspects of the romance genre; and to give support and encouragement to members.

GRW was founded in 1982, held its first regional conference the same year, and has grown steadily ever since. But the heart and soul of GRW are its members who reach out to every writer who is dedicated to his or her craft.

This is the professional textbook description of GRW, but those who know it best will tell you that GRW is a “happening place” where the diligent succeed and that success is revered and celebrated by all.

We are friends and we care.

Come join us and share in that joy.

May 21 – Heather C. Leigh

Marketing has become the thorn in every author’s side. How to get noticed in the tidal wave of books and new authors. Co-marketing may be your new best friend. Using the power of joint fanbases, forming groups with fellow authors in your genre can extend your reach and bring you new readers, while helping other authors do the same.

We will discuss techniques in co-marketing using Facebook, Instagram and other venues, such as newsletters to help you increase your fanbase.

Remember, fellow authors are not the enemy. Working together can provide fantastic results for you.

heatherleighHeather C. Leigh is the author of the best selling Famous series. She likes to write about the ‘dark’ side of fame. The part that the public doesn’t get to see, how difficult it is to live in a fishbowl and how that affects relationships.

Heather has also has a M/M sports series that has been contracted by Dreamspinner Press, with the first book due sometime in early Fall.

Heather was born and raised in New England and currently lives outside Atlanta, GA with her husband, 2 kids, and French Bulldog, Shelby. A pharmacist for 20 years, she ‘retired’ last June and now writes full time.

Heather loves the Red Sox, the New England Patriots, and anything chocolate (but not white chocolate, everyone knows it’s not real chocolate so it doesn’t count) and has left explicit instructions in her will to have her ashes snuck into Fenway Park and sneakily sprinkled all over the stands while her family enjoys beer, hot dogs, and a wicked good time.

Wielding the Power of Story: Secrets to Taking Your Writing to the Next Level

In this hands-on, practical day-long workshop, award-winning, international bestselling author, Robin Perini, will dig deep into the writing craft starting with identifying your strengths as a writer, continuing through story and character development, and ending with methods to activate your writing to pack a punch. Learn the tools, skills and approaches she uses in her own novels which Publishers Weekly call “refresh[ing] romantic suspense” and RT Book Review calls “edge-of-the-seat, gripping suspense … with memorable and scarred characters who readers care about.”

Designed for a wide range of writers, from beginners to published authors, this interactive workshop will include numerous exercises so that attendees can leave the workshop with tools to strengthen their work.

The workshop will include the following topics: Discover YOUR Story, YOUR Passion; Peeling Off The Layers – Character versus Characterization; Taking Advantage of Secondary Characters and Subplots; Braiding Character with Story; The One-Sentence Marketing Blurb as a Story Tool; Theme; Deep Point of View; How to Show, Not tell Emotions; Making Narrative and Description Count; Taking Advantage of Arcs and Turning Points; How to Keep the Reader Up until 4 AM; SPICED: Activating Your Writing; Nitty Gritty of Revision and Non-Craft Tips.

There will also be an opportunity for a hands-on review of openings. Contact Robin through her website at http://www.robinperini.com/contact/. Include GRW OPENING — YOUR NAME in the subject. Robin will then send you information on where to email your opening (the first three pages of the manuscript; double-spaced, approximately 25 lines per page, Times New Roman 12 pt (or equivalent); no name in the header, but include the title and genre). Robin will comment on all openings, but by sending an entry, your manuscript may be used as an example during the workshop.
