Wielding the Power of Story: Secrets to Taking Your Writing to the Next Level

In this hands-on, practical day-long workshop, award-winning, international bestselling author, Robin Perini, will dig deep into the writing craft starting with identifying your strengths as a writer, continuing through story and character development, and ending with methods to activate your writing to pack a punch. Learn the tools, skills and approaches she uses in her own novels which Publishers Weekly call “refresh[ing] romantic suspense” and RT Book Review calls “edge-of-the-seat, gripping suspense … with memorable and scarred characters who readers care about.”

Designed for a wide range of writers, from beginners to published authors, this interactive workshop will include numerous exercises so that attendees can leave the workshop with tools to strengthen their work.

The workshop will include the following topics: Discover YOUR Story, YOUR Passion; Peeling Off The Layers – Character versus Characterization; Taking Advantage of Secondary Characters and Subplots; Braiding Character with Story; The One-Sentence Marketing Blurb as a Story Tool; Theme; Deep Point of View; How to Show, Not tell Emotions; Making Narrative and Description Count; Taking Advantage of Arcs and Turning Points; How to Keep the Reader Up until 4 AM; SPICED: Activating Your Writing; Nitty Gritty of Revision and Non-Craft Tips.

There will also be an opportunity for a hands-on review of openings. Contact Robin through her website at http://www.robinperini.com/contact/. Include GRW OPENING — YOUR NAME in the subject. Robin will then send you information on where to email your opening (the first three pages of the manuscript; double-spaced, approximately 25 lines per page, Times New Roman 12 pt (or equivalent); no name in the header, but include the title and genre). Robin will comment on all openings, but by sending an entry, your manuscript may be used as an example during the workshop.
