December 10 – Linda Joyce

SMART-R Goals Produce Results

How many times have you started project with the end in mind only to discover you’re not reaching your monthly word count, or you needed to research an aspect of the story, or social media is getting in the way of everything?

In the SMART-R Goals workshop, writers learn to dig deep and break down a goal into related parts to reap rewards. Maybe there’s more than one goal on a project that needs to be defined. The workshop is designed to demonstrate to writers how to identify goals, how to measure the progress of each, determine if a goal is attainable, realistic, timely, and then set up an appropriate reward to celebrate success.

Use of a worksheet will assist writers in capturing the information needed in a thoughtful and organized fashion while providing a visual for reference.

Writers sometimes find it useful to gather a few friends and create a goal group to support each other in the pursuit of goals.

Linda_Joyce_0342Linda Joyce is an award-winning author who writes about assertive females and the men who can’t resist them. Her Fleur de Lis series: Bayou Born, Bayou Bound, Bayou Beckons are all RONE Award Finalists, as well as Her Heart’s Desire, book one of her Sunflower series. Bayou Bound received 1st Place in Romance from Southeastern Writer’s Association and Bayou Beckons was awarded Best of Contemporary Women’s Fiction in 2015 by Authors on the Air.

A big fan of jazz and blues, Linda attributes her love of those musical genres to her southern roots, which run deep in Louisiana. If you walk-through several New Orleans cemeteries you’ll find many of her people buried there. Of course, being a southerner, she loves farm-to-table southern food.

Linda penned her first manuscript while living in Japan, the country where her mother was born and raised. Her teacher discovered pages and pages during recess, and then demanded a special parent-teacher conference, something every military dependent child fears. Her teacher insisted the subject matter was too mature—romance. Linda’s mother insisted the teacher should be pleased to have a dedicated student. Linda’s father returned and said the conference was a waste of his time and the teacher ought to be grounded.

Now she lives in Atlanta with her husband and a Brittany Spaniel, General Beauregard, who, after fourteen years, still thinks she’s his pet.

November 19 – Jana Oliver & Tyra Burton

Hitting the Reboot Button: How to (Re) Launch Your Career

Sometimes even veteran authors need to push the “reboot” button. It might be to launch a pseudonym or establish a presence in a different genre. Or maybe you wish to reset reader expectations. Regardless of why, how do you build a new author brand from nothing, with no fan base?

This presentation will take a peek inside real-world example: Tyra will show you how to create a new platform and lay out a media campaign, and Jana will discuss what difficulties you’ll face as an unknown author, and present solutions to the “I’ve never heard of you” issue. At the end of the presentation, you’ll know how to find your “influencers”, which social media platform is best to target, and the real cost of that “reboot”.

And if you are just starting out, don’t worry, rebooting strategies can be adapted for new authors as well.
