September 15 – Heather Leonard

Law & Order for the Writer – How Not to Draw Objections to Your Writing

Whether your main character is a lawyer or a plot point deals with a legal issue, you want the details to be right. Relying on television, movies, and Wikipedia for your research guarantees you will draw objections to your writing about the legal system.  This program will cover basic legal terminology, organization of the legal system, and common legal issues you need to have right, and other information to keep your readers eyes from rolling at obvious errors.

Heather Leonard is a two-time Golden Heart finalist.  Consistently recognized as one of the top civil rights lawyers in Alabama, Heather Leonard has been handling employment discrimination matters since 1998.  She has been ranked as one of the Top 25 female attorneys as well as one of the Top 50 overall attorneys in Alabama by Thompson Reuters’ Superlawyers publication.  Her firm has also been ranked as a Tier One provider of employment law services by U.S. News and World Report’s “Best Law Firms.”
