May 19 – McCall Hoyle

Using Sentence Structure to Make Your Writing Stand Out

McCall will start with a quick overview of the most important part of every sentence—the verb. She will review the importance of choosing the “just-right” action verb and the role that active voice plays in effective writing and storytelling. After reviewing these important concepts, she will model how to use active verbs and voice, using a wide variety of sentence structures. Participants will spend the remainder of the session practicing and learning how to write fluid and engaging sentences in the active voice without falling into the choppy subject-verb, subject-verb construction trap.
